This is the right structure when a matter is genuinely complex, when conflict is high, or when what you need most is to stop carrying the procedural weight of it yourself.

Conflict check and engagement agreement
The firm confirms it can represent you, then puts the scope, the hourly rate, the retainer, and the administrative setup fee in writing before anything is billed.

Retainer and file opening
The retainer is deposited in trust and drawn against as work is done. Your matter, your portal, and secure document storage are set up.

The matter, carried
Strategy, filings, disclosures, negotiation, hearings. You are informed at every step and decide the big questions; the rest is done for you.

Final orders, and after
The decree, the agreements behind it, and the post-decree work if circumstances change or orders are not followed.

From the first meeting the attorney holds the whole thread: the theory of the case, the calendar, the filings due, and what each step is for. You are kept informed at every turn and you decide the big questions; the machinery of the matter is carried for you.

Temporary orders hearings decide who lives where and who pays what for the next year, and they come quickly. If a date is set, say so when you book, and the firm triages accordingly.
Costs
Time-based, and explained before it starts.
Full representation is billed hourly against a retainer, because a contested matter needs the time it actually takes rather than the time a flat fee would have budgeted. The hourly rate, the retainer, and the administrative setup fee are set out in the engagement agreement before anything is billed, and the fees can be financed.
Court filing fees and third-party costs, such as experts, are separate.

No. Consultations are paid, and that is a deliberate choice. A free consultation is generally a screening call; ours is a working session in which you receive an attorney's actual assessment of your position and options. The fee is quoted before you book, with no surprises.
